Le Gosier is a lively town in the heart of Guadeloupe, located only seven kilometers from Pointé-à -Pitre. Its central position, between Grand-Terre and Basse-Terre, is ideal for discovering the island. This seaside town got its name from the brown pelicans called "grands gosiers" (big gullets) that had nested on the îlet Gosier in the past.
From the village, narrow lanes lead down to the picturesque white sand Datcha beach where you'll find a great bar for sipping cocktails at the water's edge. Just opposite, you'll see the famous îlet Gosier, an islet of only one kilometer surrounded by coconut trees and white sand. Protected by the National Forestry Commission, the island provides shelter for an iguana colony. Fishermen can carry you across to spend the day. Lively both day and night, the Marina du Gosier has many restaurants, bars and boutiques. It's also the departure point for full-day or half-day boat excursions. Are you traveling with your family? Lastly, be sure to stroll over to Fort Fleur d'Epée, where you'll have a beautiful view of the bay.
